Camp Robin was born from the mind of Lena Pernell, who, exhausted and stressed beyond belief, would often tell her husband she was tired of being Batman; sometimes, she just wanted to be Robin.
Recognizing the overwhelming pressure faced by minority women—illustrated by statistics showing that 80% of African American women experience the Superwoman Schema, characterized by an obligation to present an image of strength and suppress emotions—Lena envisioned Camp Robin as a sanctuary.
This three-day retreat, set for the summer of 2025, offers a space for women to retreat, renew, and reclaim themselves. Participants can engage in yoga sessions, mental health workshops, financial literacy courses, and more. Camp Robin provides a much-needed escape, fostering a community of empowerment, healing, and growth.
One of the best parts, is that it's our intention to have free childcare available on the other side of the camp, no sitter? No Problem.
As this idea is in its infancy, we are looking for support in all avenues:
Over the next six months, we'll be working to identify sponsors and securing a camp site location. So if you know of someone, please let us know.
While our planning in still in it infancy, attendees can reserve their spot now for a charge of $25. This also allows them to be a part of the planning process where they'll be surveyed regarding such planning items as menu and extracurricular activities.
