Board Member Description - Detroit Volleyball Coaches Associ

 Position Title: Advisory Board Member 

Organization: Detroit Volleyball Coaches Association (DVCA) 


Mission: 

The mission of the Detroit Volleyball Coaches Association is to grow the game of volleyball in Detroit through education and opportunity.  


Role Overview: 

The Detroit Volleyball Coaches Association is seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to serve as  Board Members. As a board member, you will play a vital role in advancing our mission by providing strategic guidance, leadership, and support to the organization. This is a volunteer position that requires a commitment to our cause and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of Detroit girls. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Strategic Planning: Participate in the development of the organization's strategic plan, ensuring  that our programs and initiatives align with our mission and long-term goals. 
  • Governance: Act as a steward for the organization, overseeing its financial stability, legal  compliance, and ethical conduct. Make informed decisions to safeguard the organization's best  interests. 
  • Fundraising and Resource Development: Contribute to fundraising efforts, including grant  writing, donor cultivation, and event planning, to secure the necessary resources for our  programs and initiatives. 
  • Community Engagement: Engage with the local community, potential partners, and  stakeholders to foster positive relationships and expand our reach within Detroit. 5. Advocacy and Promotion: Serve as a passionate advocate for DVCA, promoting our mission and  initiatives to a wider audience and encouraging support for our cause. 
  • Program Oversight: Collaborate with the coaching staff and other board members to ensure  the successful execution of our volleyball training programs. 
  • Networking: Leverage your professional and personal networks to bring new resources and  opportunities to DVCA, including potential sponsors, volunteers, and strategic partnerships. 


Qualifications: 

  • A deep commitment to the mission of Detroit Volleyball Coaches Association. 2. Previous experience in board service, nonprofit management, sports, or education is a plus. 3. Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills. 
  • A willingness to actively participate in board meetings, committees, and other organizational activities. 
  • The ability to dedicate time and effort to further the goals of DVCA. 
  • Knowledge of the youth sports landscape of Detroit. 


Term: 

Board members typically serve a two-year term, with the option for reappointment. The board meets biannually to discuss and make decisions on the organization's activities and direction.
